5 Weekly Goals – Homemaking Failure

homemaking failure

Well, last week I stunk at my goals. I am just not back to “normal” yet and I keep thinking I will do better tomorrow but it is just taking some time. So last week’s goals went mostly untouched. But that is okay. All six children are alive, the house is still standing, my husband still loves me, and my Heavenly Father sees that my heart is content with the blessing He has given and this is all that matters. Today starts a new week and a new list. I am determined not to let this homemaking failure totally derail my focus and my motivation. I really want to get back “in the saddle” but I am careful not to push it too hard. So this week I will try again with my 5 weekly goals and give it another go.

1. Scrub my bathroom – And I mean SCRUB!!! I have wiped it down and the kids have “cleaned” it but man it is starting to show a lack of attention and there is nothing that bothers me more than a “dirty” bathroom. It needs the floors scrubbed, the shower cleaned and the fixtures polished. I am really wanting to get this done even it takes a couple days doing a little here and there.

2. Vacuum the floors – No, I can’t do this job yet but the older children can and it needs to be done, like last week. One thing is certain with eight people in this house after a month of only minimal up keep it is starting to show.

3. Clean up Toys – Yes, my children do pick up their own toys but as the holiday season approaches (yes I am already thinking about it) I am starting to tackle one toy box or area a week to purge the house before we are flooded with more gifts. I am hoping grandparents cut down again this year. Don’t even get me started on the extravagance of the holidays in America.

4. Dust the living room – From top to bottom and everything in between needs to be dusted. I have found that I don’t really like the “month’s worth of dust layer” look in my home and it must be changed.

5. Grocery Shop – I haven’t been since the week before Elizabeth was born and we are getting to the bottom of the barrel. The freezer meals are holding out but as a family that is used to lots of fresh produce in the house we are going through withdrawals for something fresh. It is time to fill that fruit bowl and vegetable drawer again.

As I sit here this morning I am so thankful to be feeling pretty good even after getting out of the house both days this weekend. I was fully prepared to be stuck on the couch all day today but it seems I might accomplish something this morning at least. Slowly but surely this recovery is happening and I thank you all for your continued prayers. Have a great week and be productive!!!

  1. I need to do the same to my bathroom. When I looked up at the two light fixtures and saw all the dust on the globes, I freaked out. I have to have the hubby take them down so I can make them sparkle.

My son goes through his room every holiday season to get rid of any broken or unused toys. Any that are in good condition, we donate to the local thrift shop that we practically live at. I love that it helps others as well as making room in my sons room. He is at anage (13) where toys are becoming less and less, so this donating of toys like this will come to and end eventually.
