Teach Kids to Serve Others

Teach Kids to Serve OthersWe have always tried our hardest to aim at teaching our kids to serve others so when Christianity Cove offered a review of their 100 Simple Service Projects  (on sale for $19.95/regularly $29.95)e-book I was instantly interested. I am always looking for ideas too that will help me teach kids to serve others at church. This book had some great ideas that are easy to use no matter how much or how little time you have to spend on a project and they also have enough ideas listed in various categories of service that there is something to match everyone’s interest.

I have used the ideas in this book with my children ages 4 years to 10 years and I feel that many of the ideas are well suited for the whole family to do together or for a Sunday School class or ministry of children ages pre-k through grade 6 just as the book says. Many of the ideas, honestly many of us adults would benefit from implementing some of the ideas shared in this book. So many times we “grown ups” are just too busy to truly serve others, and that is important too. In this 56 page pdf book you will find ideas on how to teach kids to serve in many areas –

  • The Home
  • The Community
  • The Elderly
  • The Environment
  • Animals
  • And so much  more!!

As I mentioned before both my husband and I have seen the importance to teach kids to serve others and have thus involved our children in a host of “service” projects. We have visited the nursing home, asked the children to “help” on home improvement projects, collected items for the Ronald McDonald charities after Jeremiah was sick, and after the tornadoes recently tore through Moore, OK we packed up toys and personal items and sent them to the families that were hurting there.

Just as the author of this book says, I truly believe that if we want to raise children that see and respond to the needs of others we have to not only model that behavior but we also must involve them in service activities from an early age. Even as a toddler they can learn to serve others within the home by putting away sister’s shoes, or setting the fork on the table for dinner. Those projects can move into greater service projects as the child enters elementary school by allowing them to bake cookies for the neighbor, pick up sticks in the yards on their block after a storm, or send a pretty handmade card to a sick friend. And this book offers so many more ideas than I can list here! This is a great resource for any family or church to have on hand.

As a minister’s wife there are many ideas in this book that I am so excited to use at church. I am organizing a stuffed animal drive to serve children in our community, we are already gearing up for Operation Christmas Child’s Shoebox Ministry and I can’t wait to see what other projects we are able to help with. This book offers links to safe and child friendly organizations that are nationally recognized so it is easy for anyone to find a project already in existence and join in their work. From a local food pantry to Habitat for Humanity there are many ways to teach kids to serve others and this author provides all the tools and ideas that parents or ministry workers need to get started.
