I am not normally a “pre-schooler” if you know what I mean. I truly feel that younger children learn best through play and have plenty of time for worksheets, time frames, and assignments later in life. I don’t usually start any formal schooling until my children are 5 or 6. But my Katherine is so eager to learn and wants to do school that when the Flowering Baby review came open I jumped at the chance to give it a try.

I received the download of the complete five year Flower Baby program so I have been using the 4-5 year old set with Katherine and also been doing a little of the 2-3 year old set with Jeremiah. And I have to say I am very impressed. There are two parts to the 4-5 year set. One of them is a monthly unit with activities for each day of the month and then there is a unit set that can be used a couple days a week to supplement the monthly activites. We worked through the month of January and part of February in the monthly set and we did the pets and farm animals themes from the theme set. Flowering Baby has included an entire month worth of samples of this set and you can see those HERE.

I loved that this program offered so many activites for each day that we could do a lot if she was interested and not so much the next day if she just wasn’t “into it” that day. The activities are fairly open to interpretation. For example it will tell you that the child should practice writing a certain letter or number that day but you can choose how. Some days we use pencil and paper, some days we would do a dry board, and still others you could have them write in a pan of rice. Each month there is a list of books to enjoy with your child as well. Since this has been a crazy bad year for the flu around here and we have a little guy with a long respitory history we haven’t been venturing out at all. I was worried about how to still include the books that we didn’t own. And then I thought to search YouTube and I was so excited to find almost all of the books on there in some way. So, I would just search for the title and author and then they could watch the book when I couldn’t read it to them.

This is a great option if you are the type of family that loves to learn through play like we do. It helps to keep momma focused and gives a direction to your toddler/preschooler’s learning but leaves enough room for you to tailor it to you and your child’s likes.

One of my favorite aspects the Flowering Baby review of the 2-3 year set is the music focus. I am not a music person. I never have been. I enjoy music, don’t get me wrong, but I never explored different music types or styles and so many times I don’t expose my children to them either. I just don’t think about it. But during this review we have enjoyed different styles and composers of music that we may not have otherwise listened to. Again, I used YouTube and Google to find the music that they recommended since I didn’t have any of it. And I have thoroughly enjoyed that during this Flowering Baby review. There is also a sample of this Flowering Baby set available HERE if you would like to see it.

Katherine has truly loved this program and I have loved that it gave me something to use with her without the restraints of a boxed curriculum. She has learned so much about her letters and numbers in the past 6 weeks I am amazed! And I love the fact that very little of it was on paper. We practiced counting by marching around the house, we worked on letter sounds with scavenger hunts, and we practiced following directions with 2-3 steps.

I have nothing but good to say about this program in regards to both of the sets that I have tried. Whether you are looking for something to structure your whole day or just something to give you some fun ideas to keep your preschooler busy for a little while this program is a great fit. There are lots of “lessons” for each day and you can use as many or as few as you like. And the best part is this program isn’t full of cramming information down your child’s throat with countless pages of written work. It encourages you to learn through exploring and play as you watch your children grow!

  1. Hi Amanda,
Thank you for your glowing review, it has been a pleasure working with The Crew! I just wanted to add my appreciation of your You Tube idea. These are the types of ideas I will implement into the program for the next CD run. I never thought of that – showing my age I guess :) Very easy on the budget and your time, win/win.
    Have a blessed week,
    Martha
