What A Day

Who would have thought that we would have 70 degree weather in February!! But the kids and I took full advantage of it that is for sure. We has an invitation to go to the zoo but with the crazy busy schedule of the week before the wedding, it just didn’t work. So, I loaded up all four of my children and we set off for the park. It was the first time that I took the kids to the park without a friend or family member to help wrangle the crew, but it was loads of fun.
I have spent a lot more time in the past few weeks “with” my kids. I have been able to engage in activities and projects with them more now than in a long time. It has been great. I read a really good blog post recently about momma being “here” or just here. In other words, even though I stay home all day with my children how often do chores of the day prompt me to say, not right now, or in a minute, or momma’s too busy, or other such phrases. Children need to know that they are important and worthy of our time and attention. I want my children to remember trips to the park, finger painting, playing with bubbles in the sink and other such fun times. Not that mommy had a sparkling clean house with organized cabinets and freshly mopped floors. While these things are good, they are not top priority right now for me. My first calling and priority is to these children that God has entrusted to me. And I have resolved to spend more time “with” them and less time just here.
So, anyway, back to what I had originally intended to post this time. OUR TRIP TO THE PARK!!! Here are some pictures from today. One of the blessings of having to do more things without other moms right now is that I have the freedom to follow my whims. So, today I saw a small tree which was perfect for climbing and I enticed the girls to give it a try. It made for a great photo shoot. So here are today’s accomplishments –

  1. I couldn’t get you’re pics to come through, but I’m glad you guys had a great day at the park.
You’re right about being “there” and spending quality time with our kids. It is so easy for me to worry about all the things that have to be done and taken care of, that we sometimes just forget to be with our kids and enjoy them. Last night, Jenna and I made a Valentine box together. We had so much fun with it! I found myself saying, why don’t we do stuff like this more often?

  2. Those are great pictures. I love the one of Josiah. I actually got tears in my eyes when I read that post. Maybe its the pregnancy hormones :) I am always touched when moms commit to be “with” thier children. I have fallen short of playing with the kids alot recently and yesterday at the zoo was refreshing. I would like to spend more time playing and less time being mean. Seems like I am always barking orders or disciplining. I remember when I used to be a fun mom. I need to try to get back to that while still having order in the house. It is my spring goal. I want restored loving relationships before #4 gets here and demands my attention. I know it will only be accomplished with more prayer and bible reading and less lazy time. I tend to use my time unwisely leaving less time for the kids.
