Reconsidering Modern Medicine

So this post has been growing for just about a year now. After spending a lot of time changing our diet to one of almost all natural, home cooked, simple meals I started reconsidering modern medicine. If I was trying to rid our diet of all of those lovely ingredients found on the backs of boxes that I couldn’t pronounce why was I not looking at the medicine bottles. When my children were their weakest I was just blindly filling their bodies full of what society tells us to. But if society driven food wasn’t the best, how was I to know that society driven medicine was best.

So now, during my countless nursing sessions I use the wonderful invention of the smart phone to my advantage. I read and read and read on my phone as I search for new ways to treat my family. If God created the world, I was sure He gave us all that we needed, including ways to heal our bodies naturally. Now please hear my heart on this, I know full well that doctors and hospitals have their places and I am not afraid to seek treatment for my family if that becomes necessary. I am just reconsidering modern medicine as the main source of treatment. Now, I have things that I try first .

There is so much about treating illnesses naturally that I feel very inadequate writing this. But I wanted to share the little bit of knowledge that I now have and that has helped my family along that way. Of course, I am no doctor and this is just my humble opinion. You should always check with your doctor if you have any ongoing medical issues before implementing any new medical regiment to your treatment.

Essential Oils – There are almost countless essential oils and many have multiple uses. Some of my favorites so far are eucalyptus and peppermint. Combined together they make a great chest rub for when my little guys are congested. I can also add them to a pot of water and warm it on the stove. It will fill the air and help all of us to breathe easier during this dry winter months.

Teas – There are so many benefits from the plants that God has given us and you can treat many things by using these plant leaves to make a warm tea. Red raspberry tea helps when you have a stomach bug, nettle tea help with colds, chamomile tea helps you to relax. Using teas in a nice easy way to help your family be more comfortable during times of illness.

Homeopathic Treatments – You can’t over dose on these treatments, and there are no yucky side effects but they have proven themselves to be very effective in my home. I have been using an intestinal product for Elizabeth during her bouts of colic and gas these past few months. They work so much better than anything else I have ever tried with my other babies.  These are the ones that I am currently using.

The internet is full of so much useful information on the subject of natural medicine but as with all things you should be careful what you believe and use. Use good solid judgment and reach out to someone more knowledgeable than you to help you learn. I have been blessed to get to know a great Christian naturopath here in town. Dr. Angie has been so much help and is always so full of encouragement for me. If you are local I encourage you to drop in and pay her store (The Family Holistic Center) a visit during your next illness. You can also like her page on Facebook and start learning from her posts no matter where you live! And, tell her Amanda sent you.
