Christi the Coupon Coach – TOS Review

This book review from Christi the Coupon Coach was on a topic that is near and dear to the heart of this blog. I am always striving to be wise with the money that God blesses us with and to constantly learn new ways to save money and yet feed our bodies healthier. Couponing Made Simple ($18.99 for the paperback book or $4.99 for the Kindle version) was an easy read and I found it very motivational.

Couponing isn’t new to me really but in the past few years things such as homeschooling, child training, ministry and healthier eating have kind of moved it to the back burner. This book was great for the beginner couponer but also for someone like me that needed a little help to make my efforts more efficient. Christi covers everything from couponing terms and phrases to different ideas on how to organize your coupons so that you never miss a deal.

I loved the chapter in which she walks you through the process of a “couponing” trip. She literally tells you everything you might need to know. She starts with the preparation work at home, moves on to the store process, and then even gives some fun tips for once you get home with your purchases.

This book is 130 pages full of pictures, tips and real life success stories. And while she does break couponing down into “Simple Steps to Successful Couponing” just as the subtitles says I am not sure I will ever be an “extreme” couponer. I still am always on the look out for freebies on Facebook, coupons in mailers or magazines and have learned to always check around on the web for free shipping codes when ordering online. I also was reminded to check any coupons that I pick up, or have in my purse organizer, with my sale flyers. I love Tuesday night as that is the night that my local sales paper is delivered. And I still use these sales to stock up on products that are on sale at a “rock bottom price”. Many times I don’t find coupons for beans, meat or flour and since we have decided to make as much of our own food as possible I feel it better for my family, at least for right now, to shop the sales mainly and use the occasional coupon when I find them but not to make “extreme couponing” a huge part of our life.

In all 10 chapters of this book she speaks in simple terms and makes it possible for anyone to take the knowledge from this book and become a successful couponer very quickly, but in the last chapter her clear and simple presentation of the love of Christ made this book a “winner” in my eyes. I love the fact that you could give this book to a co-worker, family member or even a friend that would find the subject of couponing very interesting and though they might be closed to any “religion” talk they might close this book with a few questions swirling in their head after her last chapter. And that is such a beautiful picture of someone really striving to use their gifts, even the skill of couponing, to further the kingdom which is really what our time here on Earth is all about.
