Preparing for Worship – Your Home

Each and every Saturday night you will find me preparing for worship. During this series on preparing for worship I want to share with you in detail how a large family prepares for worship. Or more specifically, how a momma to a large family prepares for worship. Today’s focus will be on preparing your home. The only way that you can prepare your home for worship is to be organized and self-disciplined.

One of the ways that I prepare my home for a calm day of worship is to gather all of the needed items that will make the day run smoothly. I try to have everything in place to help avoid as much stress as possible. I want/need a well stocked diaper bag for baby, Bible bags for toddlers, and purse for momma. Your list may look different but you need to make a list. Spend some time during a calm evening to make a well thought out list so that there is nothing forgotten. And then gather your things the night before your worship. That way in the morning, you can prepare your heart and mind for worship without forgetting something that your “job” as a mom requires.

When you are raising a family, food is a huge part of a mom’s life. And planning ahead is a vital part of preparing for worship. There are two key meals that directly affect my worship day. Those meals are Sunday breakfast and Sunday lunch after church. I don’t want to have to use precious time on Sunday morning searching cabinets for something to feed the children for breakfast. Nor do I want to feel stressed or anxious each time I think about lunch coming up. So each Saturday night I plan for and do as much prep work as possible for both meals.

A lost shoe. A shirt not clean. A daughter that can not find a shirt to match the skirt that she “must” wear. All of these time wasters can be avoided if we take a few moments to lay out clothing and to find what is needed for the next day before bed the night before. It helps during the week with the school rush and it does the same for worship service mornings. With a little forethought, everyone can have what they need without much fuss.

A few simple things like a clean kitchen, an empty dishwasher, and the clothing and bags laid out like we talked about can make preparing for worship much smoother and calmer. With a little preparation even a large family momma can enter into the worship service relaxed, with her heart focused and ready to praise her Savior.
